Paranormal Activity
Saw this on Halloween night. Best time to see it.
Filmed in the handy cam type style you'll have to accept it's not exactly "HD" quality. Kinda blurry at times actually. That gave me a slight head-ache, and that is never good. Besides that, however, it kept me amused.
There are moments where you get freaked out, obviously that's sort of the point. Unfortunately, not as much as I think they were going for. The movie ended up being predictable and just a bit cheesy. The acting didn't help, it was rather mediocre most the film. But what ultimately made it predictable was the writers giving up too much of the mystery too early. This caused me to be expecting certain things to happen, and they did happen, which actually made me laugh sometimes.
Let me give credit on special effects, though. For a low budget film, they did a fairly good job with it. However, if they had to use more, it wouldn't have been very decent, so I'm glad they didn't have to.
I enjoyed this movie, but somewhat for the wrong reasons. To me, the film is mediocre at best.
Where the Wild Things Are
I don't know where my copy of this book is. I haven't looked at it for over a decade after all. With that said, I don't remember it quite like this movie depicted it as.
A slightly bratty, and possibly mentally challenged young boy decided to run away from home, and let his imagination take total control. From there on, I wondered if I was high or something. An incredibly strange string of events played out to the end, and ended up sending an odd message. What I got out of it was: "if you act like a brat, and run away from home, you'll get chocolate cake when you come home."
It's hard for me to talk about this movie....
So even though I think the plot is messed up, I do have some good things to say. Starting with the acting, pretty good child actor playing the main role. The monsters had good voice actors as well. Also I really like how the monsters looked and played.
Ultimately, a weird movie, in a bad way. I'm not sure I'd want to take my child to see it.
2012
What a rush! My friends called this movie "disaster porn" for a good reason.
You most likely know what this film is all about; the end of the world, right? And boy was it. First off, if you see this movie, you need to go in knowing it's not going to be realistic in the slightest. Once you accept that, the movie will be easier to enjoy.
The action and disaster scenes were nothing short of spectacular. The combination of elite special effects and CGI made each of the disaster scenes give me goose bumps. Absolutely amazing.
And that was the best part of the movie I think. The actual plot of the movie is questionable and not exactly original, but not as bad as the critics were spewing. I enjoyed the characters that were written in, especially Charlie Frost. I was a little disappointed he got killed off without too much camera time, but there was a Russian character to make up for it. As far as the acting goes, it was OK, but not too believable unfortunately.
The bottom line; a stellar disaster film, one of the most intense I've ever seen. It kept me on edge pretty much the whole time. But, you have to like this type of film to appreciate it.
